I was really worried about this game once the schedule started developing. Georgia needed this one much more than we did, and the conference as a whole might have too.
The 'Dawgs next five are Oklahoma, at Tennessee, Auburn, at Arkansas, and at Florida. Win one of those and they're in the discussion as a bubble team depending on who the win is over. Win two of the next five and they're probably in the tournament as long as they hold serve in most of the games they'll be favored in and get one more big SEC win. Two of the next five isn't impossible either-- the team we played tonight can beat Oklahoma and Arkansas. Getting South Carolina twice won't hurt their resume, nor will two losses to Auburn; beating Auburn once and they're a lock.
The game was officiated the way it was. I wouldn't call it a screwjob, even if the way it was being called worked in Georgia's favor. As Billy Gillispie would say "we have to get tougher". I could have done without all the trips to the monitor though.
Didn't watch this one very closely, but didn't like much of what I saw when I did anyway. Oweh and Butler had some nice moments. Almonor made a play or two. Brea was off and probably bothered by injury. I wouldn't be a fan of Carr if he weren't on my team and this is the only time I'd watched him play-- looked like he was pulling some borderline Bush League moves when he was wrapping guys up and kept trying to hook Newell's ankle and get the ref's attention well after a play.
Kentucky won't win games where they shoot 24% from 3 and 37% from the field, are out-rebounded, commit 14 turnovers, & have Brea, Robinson, Carr, and Williams combine for 19 points. Even three of those is enough to beat us. One good thing about this one is that few teams have a big that's as talented and versatile as Newell.
Bottom line: we aren't very physical and will continue getting tested until that changes. I don't know that this is something that we really have an answer for though, and that will be what ultimately dooms us throughout the regular season and in the tournament.
