Floyd Central has arguably one of the best basketball minds in their building teaching every day in Brandon Gearheart. Nothing against Alan Moore but as much talent as he's had at Floyd Central, they should have more than one District Tournament title.

If Floyd Central actually cares about basketball, they would have Gearheart leading that program.

What is Gearhearts resume? I remember him coaching at Pburg (girls, maybe?) for a couple of years a while back but honestly I don’t know much about him. Seems like he didn’t have much success at Pburg when he was there. Would be interested to learn what makes you think he’s a better basketball mind than Moore.

In the one season we coached Prestonsburg boys, he lead us to a 16 win season and a trip to region with 5’10 Drake Nunnery playing the 5. He can coach, no doubt. Great basketball mind that came from years with Henry Webb. His political opinions suck though 

I’m probably gonna regret asking this because I can already guess the answer, but how does a coach take a weak team to the regional tournament in his first year and then lose his job the next year?

I’d be lying if I said I knew the exact answer but Brandon wasn’t really given an answer either. The way I think it went down was Lori promised Brandon the job if he voted her in for principal then once that happened she let him go after the season and hired Brent after some pressure at the board. Again, I don’t know that to be the case but that’s kinda what it pointed towards when it went down. I will say that when Brandon was let go and Brent was hired, he asked me to stay on staff to help but I ended up getting a job out of town and had to move. Like I’ve said before, Floyd County is extremely political and why it’s hard to have sustained success here.

That was my guess, unfortunately. I love America, but man, elections in Floyd County shake my faith in the effectiveness of democracy year after year after year. I can understand why almost every group of people on earth before 1776 wanted a king because I've lived in Floyd County for almost 40 years and seen the foolishness of these elections that don't fix anything. Everybody complains, but then they keep right on voting the same way for the same people. What's the Mel Gibson quote in the patriot? "Why should I trade 1 tyrant 1,000 miles away for 1,000 tyrants 1 mile away?"
