nice post, and very informative. I am a Jenkins alum and Ive seen Phelps at least once for the past 20 years due to them playing in our district. And you are absolutely correct. I can tell you many times after I graduated, that when Pikeville would beat Jenkins 74-6, you would THANK the Pikeville coaching staff for JUST beating you by 68 points, because that score could have been 120-6 or worse, which was exactly what Shelby Valley was trying to do. Valley is a 4-6 football program year in and year out, and when they had the chance to destroy a down team, they did. And I AM NOT putting this on the kids, because they run the plays their coaches send in, so the kids are not at fault, but when you put up 44 second half points when your already up 30 at halftime, I mean come on. I wasnt at the Rockcastle Co game and Im sure that they had a huge halftime lead, and coasted with the JV in the second half, not padding their stats. I live right past the Shelby Valley hell, and Im here to tell you, enjoy it while you can, because there's a few teams on your schedule that could year in and year out make you feel like Phelps did last friday night.

1. Because Shelby Valley isn't a top notch program
2. Rockcastle is a top 5 team in 3A so even their young guys tend to better than very bad teams like Bourbon County
3. Phelps is actually a good enough to win games and compete and Valley blew them away putting up 79. Phelps did win 4 games last season.
4. Bourbon County is very, very bad and is currently in the midst of a 25 game losing streak where every team in the past 3 seasons now has scored atleast 55 points against them with the exception of 5 occassions.
5. Phelps hasn't had 79 points on them since who knows when. I checked back as far as the 1998 season and the most points they had ever had hung on them was a 62-30 loss to Hazard in 1998. The biggest score differential I could find since 1998 was a 60-0 loss last season to Pikeville.

That's why Valley is getting hammered for "running up the score." Just the same as Prestonsburg was hammered last year for the same against Magoffin County.
