Had a feeling deep deep deep in the back of my mind that this could be a trap game. Listen, everyone seen that 2-8 record beside Colgate (including me) and thought minimum we win by 40, don't let the record fool you tho. I think it was @King Kong pointed out that Colgate has made the tournament 5 years in a row, then talking on the broadcast last night that they've won 66 out of their last 72 conference games, small conference or not that is still very impressive. Guess they have been dealing with some injuries as well, haven't had that tough of a schedule tho outside of playing Syracuse & NC State for P5 opponents. They played a great game last night, played hard despite getting off to an abysmal start. Give them all the credit in the world for playing the way they did, giving Kentucky more than they wanted, if I was a bettin man, when healthy this team will start putting it together and wouldn't be a surprise to see them on selection Sunday.
Kentucky sure started out hot getting up 17-0, but after that it was like they took their foot off the pedal, plus a combination of Colgate finally hitting their shots. I know from the get go, one of Pope's main philosophies is to shoot 30-35 3's a game, pretty much live or die by it, no such thing as a bad shot, but if those shots aren't falling, maybe figure something else out? Trying not to be a water cooler coach here, but if you go long spurts without a field goal, then maybe work the ball around, pound the paint, you've got the bigs w/ Carr & Williams, eventually that is going to open the perimeter up with the defense collapsing and helping. They definitely came out in the first few minutes of the 2nd half flat, but really picked up the defensive intensity which led to more offensive opportunities, finally found a good rhythm from 3 and grew that lead out.
Not their best performance, but there's no doubt that Pope & staff will have them prepared for Saturday.
