i had not heard yet that shawn hager was coming to prestonsburg.. big get for the blackcats and good for shawn too that is a great way to be after being overworked heavily at floyd central the last few years

20/22 is impressive too belfry brings back 19/22 if im not mistaken but they bring back all but 53 yards of offense production out of over 5000. gotta think it would benefit prestonsburg to work the rpi to avoid belfry... but belfry typically plays a tough schedule and ends up lower in RPI. ultimately pburg has to really make sure to beat martin county to avoid going to pond creek round 2

i have heard some smoke about transfers... two names ive personally heard are the johnson kid from paintsville and the maynard kid from martin county..... but you mentioned the prestonsburg QB will be a 3rd year starter... would either of those kids volunteer to change positions at prestonsburg??? exciting times for the blackcats... far more people are skeptics than believers still so they gotto get out there and prove it in year 2 under wes hager

I don’t expect Prestonsburg to bulk up their schedule just yet. You’re still trying to build off this past season. 

Prestonsburg needs to develop depth and continue building momentum and establishing a winning culture right now. The Blackcats have talent, but most guys play both ways and depth was an issue this past season. If you play 3 or 4 really tough non district games, you’re opening yourself up for injuries and damaging your RPI as well. I think you’ll see going forward, teams are gonna start scheduling more for RPI.

The decision of who is QB is up to the coaches. I don’t think any quarterback in the history of football has ever willingly given up their spot. I think if Johnson comes in from Paintsville there will be a competition. I think Holbrook is a better passer, but Johnson is quicker and stronger. Hager used Dalton Elliott this past season at QB in shotgun some to utilize his speed. I could see Hager wanting to do the same with Johnson out of spread, but using Holbrook under center when they’re running belly. That would probably be the best case scenario to keep both players content. Holbrook could play WR. Johnson can also be RB and WR. Either way it’ll be hard for high school defenses to adjust to defending both if the things work out like they could.

I doubt Maynard transfers to Prestonsburg. I don’t think he’d be the QB. He’d likely be TE/WR on offense and safety on defense. That’s what he would play in college as well. Would love to have him, because he’s a great athlete, but they love him over there in Inez and I just don’t see him making the move. He’ll be Martin County’s offense in 2025. 

There’s been some JC, BL, FC, Paintsville, and Martin Co names rumored. I’ll believe it all when they enroll. There’s definitely spots open for competition I’d say, because I’m sure the staff would love to not have to rely on so many to play both ways.
