Open Job: Paintsville
#95
If Johnson wants to be a big fish in a smaller pond, he will stay put or go to Prestonsburg. If he wants to win more meaningful games, he may look elsewhere. Depends if he wants stats or a chance at a ring.

Matter of fact, why don't you form a committee and replace the whole staff. As you mentioned, the coach doesn't make the program...Which makes total sense because I forgot all about Mac's championships at Pike Central. I recall Sheldon Clark and Harlan and even South Floyd beating Pikeville. How many times did they run IZ or Power? Are you sure it wasn't Duo? Mid Zone? Stretch? Did they run it to the 3t or the 1t? Was it out of 22p, 21p, 11p? What coverage skeleton was primarily shown on P&10? The only "fact is" is that Pikeville got accustomed to winning, and then they didn't. Boyle County effect. Quit crying. Donate more to the Pikeville NIL fund. Maybe all the Pikeville fans could attend some community meetings so there would be more economic development before UPike and Pikeville Methodist Hospital buy the entire city. You would be really sad if kids are forced to attend Central or Valley.

As for Paintsville, I'd argue they are tanking once more. It might be sometime before they can recoup...Betsy Layne, Johnson Central, Prestonsburg, and Martin County are going to spread that talent even more
i might send my resume to paintsville if they make the right hire...... as far as replacing the whole staff at pikeville if it were up to me i would replace the whole staff with elves because i am from belfry. trust me i want brad allen to remain the offensive coordinator!!! mac definitely struggled at pike central and in his first stint at pikeville but he came back and established that program for 4-5 years and won at least one championship before brad took over as offensive coordinator. good to see you play madden and can name some run concepts too!!! could be any of those but im not sure brad ever felt the need to go that deep in the bag.... i was giving him credit naming two! they ran it at whatever d-line technique they wanted because they have had dudes that can just flat out run it...... lets talk about this year..... did pikeville ever run mesh to try and get braxton or hall into space or a smash concept for easy yards?? i remember a few screens.... once again, extended handoffs..... because theres no concepts that get guys open aside from getting them the ball and letting them make the play. AND I GET IT!!!!!!! youve got talent use it........ but the overwhelming truth is for the last 6 years is that pikeville only wins the games when theyre flat out better than the other team and their guys go make plays.... find me one example of the run game being stifled but brad allen has dialed up passing concepts and schemed out a win and ill gladly change my mind i havent watched every game admittedly but i dont recall a time that has happened?? its been a simple approach hand it to raines hand it to birchfield hand it to anthony and again if it isnt broke dont fix it but any offensive coordinator could do that when the rubber hits the road and the run game isnt dominating it is OVER for the panthers...... anthony wasnt himself this year and pikeville scores 6 points against sayre!!!!!! with a 3 or 4 year starter at quarterback i believe????

lets talk about head coach brad allen while we're here........ head coach at east ridge from 2008-2013, went to belfry as an assistant in 2014 and won a state title as an assistant, then head coach 2015-2017..... in those 9 years youd think a team lead by a winner would win some decent games right??? 29 wins in 9 years (thats 3 per year btw) 65 losses (that's 7 per year)...... 3 seasons of 1 or less wins, 1 season over .500 (6-4), and of those 29 wins NOT A SINGLE ONE came over a team over .500 from kentucky EVER!!!! in 9 whole seasons!! the one season that he went to belfry east ridge went .500 that means in a 10 year stretch they had just as many .500 seasons without brad allen then they did with him and he was the head coach for 9....... never once did he upset a team who was over .500...... never won a single playoff game either.... now again i understand it is hard to win at east ridge and ultimately i do think he did a good job there but to say hes a "winner" is a little crazy he never did anything awe inspiring his best parts of his resume are joining already established programs and winning an assistant and theres nothing wrong with that but youre giving him way too much credit.... i will also add i think his best addition to the pikeville program has been as the o line coach he does well at that he just cant call plays

as for paintsville i think if you hire the right coach you can be competitive in two years..... the tigers went 3-8 in 2013.... then 8-4 in 2014 and 10-3 in 2015 it doesnt take that long.... if brad allen can take the job and do that ill eat my words but i think you have a chance to go out and hire a guy who can excited the program and maybe even take kids from johnson central who isnt exactly setting the world on fire with the jesse peck era (speaking of hiring a guy who had mediocre success at a bad program and thinking being an assistant at a good program would change him.........)

ill conclude with this...... have you seen a single pikeville fan parent player or coach in any thread clamoring to not lose brad allen? when one of them does maybe ill change my course..... i have no personal anomosity towards brad ive only met him a handful of times in my life but he seems like a VERY nice guy this is is purely from the perspective of a guy who likes football and is cheering for paintsville..... i dont think brad allen is a very good offensive play caller and his head coaching resume is not inspiring for a program who needs a shot in the arm like paintsville but has proven a shot in its arm can change their trajectory.......... again if im wrong ill gladly eat my words.......... but if im the tigers the coordinator at pikeville im throwing my money at IS NOT the offensive one
Pikeville did throw against LCA, GRC, Ironton, and Boyd County.  Some of their best weapons were injured this year and that may be why they were so run heavy in addition to having #35 in the backfield but when they decided to throw, it worked.  They put up big offensive numbers in all 4 of those games.  400-500+ yards of offense in all of those I believe.  BUT, word is those were by a different play caller.  Hence the question why?  Watch those games and then watch their others.  I think when next year's Panthers play, there will be some confusion by people who do not follow them closely wondering who some of these guys are and where were they last year? They were there and you saw flashes and big games by a couple but some weren't able to continue due to injury and others were kind of wasted in all honestly.  I think there will be changes but I don't believe that impacts the hire at Paintsville.
