Raceland vs. Sayre 12/6 (1A State Championship)

I’m on the fence with it. I’d like to say defer. Our defense hasn’t given up many points and have rarely seen a 1A school cross into plus territory. So getting that initial stop has set the tone. That being said, I expect Sayre to come in fired up with something to prove, so I would also heavily consider taking the ball and methodically marching down the field and eat up the clock. But that possession has to come away with points.

I feel like the defer is a bigger thing though. Takes the pressure off of a young QB, puts the pressure on Sayre to do something early. If it’s me, I kick to them, then bracket Coffman and play man elsewhere. I’m not sure Coffman has played against a corner as physical as McKee.

Imo, Another big match up that favors the Rams is Sammons or Headley against Sayre’s LT. Not sure he has seen that type of quickness off the edge. Raceland hasn’t needed to bring a lot of outside pressure because those two have done so good doing it themselves. I’m just ready for Friday to get here!!!
For me on Raceland I think they need to take the ball and score first that way ALL the pressure is on Sayre.
I absolutely agree if you take the ball you have to come away with something. You can not come up empty handed. But if you come up empty handed inside the 20 I can live with that. Field position game is where I’ve seen Raceland just wear teams down and keep them teams deep in their own territory.

Sammons very well could be a problem for Sayre. I look for some extra help from a tight end or a back on him in this one. Im curious how the center of the line holds up with the blitzes up the middle.

I’m also hoping in this game that Sammons doesn’t get off charter of what they’ve been doing all year to change it up in title game like I’ve saw in the past two seasons.

Believe I’m gonna go back and watch the Campbellsville game and check a few things out. Another name for a Sayre to keep an eye on is John Luke Minner. Really good size at defensive end.v
