I competed against Danville athletes in track and field in the early 2000’s when Kelvin Turner played. What always stuck out to me was how proud they were of their tradition and they had a swagger to reflect it. I remember thinking how glad I was to not to have to played them in football because they were a a beast of a program. As someone who remembers them being the gold standard when they dominated 1A in the 4 Class system it is hard to fathom how far they have dropped.

In a weird way, Danville has never done well since the 4 class system went away. In 2A (six classes) they've only won one championship and made two titles games. Closest Sam Harp came to a six class title was 2010 when the Ads made the final four and lost to Owensboro Catholic in a 61-42 shootout.
