Belfry 35 Letcher County Central 34
#9
I watched this game on (not so good and needs work) live stream. So I don't know if I saw everything correctly.

Letcher's QB #7 executed their game plan perfectly, faking the hand off to the back long enough to pull the linebackers up and hit the short, quick pass across the middle to, I think, a tight end. By doing that, he pulled the DBs up and would then drop some long passes to #18 for TDs. Made Belfry's defense look really bad for 3 quarters. It seemed Belfry figured out a few things in the 4th quarter and played better.

Belfry had no offensive pass protection. If they did, I think, the QB #3 would have had a big passing night. Letcher had nobody back even 5 yards off the line of scrimmage. The O-line needs to work on that.

Belfry's running game is fun to watch. #2 never gives up even though he's already ran the ball 30 times. He's like the Energizer Bunny of running backs. It looks like he never gets tired. #11 runs hard and hits those outside corners on the option really fast. In the 3rd quarter, I watched Little number #10 make 2 (back to back) runs for probably a total of 90 yds and 2 TDs (1- 20+ and 1- 60+) at a critical time. Even the QB is a good runner on the option.

I had watched Letcher improve over the year, especially the last 4 weeks, thought they had a good chance to beat Belfry. I was right.....

I’m not surprised at all.   In fact I predicted if Belfry didn’t come with their A game they could very well get stung.

Defensively, Belfry was lost from the jump.  Unenthusiastic, unfocused and asleep at the wheel.    Gotta hope they get healthy real soon.  Missing a few kids that hopefully will provide some support and on field leadership.

offensively…The Belfry run game was back on full display.  LCC goes 10-11 in the box…and FB and 2nd back just completely befuddled LCC in the second half.   Austin, Woolum and Varney moved like a well oiled machine as they fought off a 14 point deficit to get back into it.

last thing I will say is about the officiating.  Something has to give. While I know the shortages are real…..the talent pool is at a toxically low level.   I didn’t think they could get worse than what went on last week in Stanton.   Tonight was real close.   If you’re gonna be on the field, you have to have a clear understanding of the rules you are to enforce and apply.   Very disappointing to say the least.   Hope and pray that crew will not be active during the playoffs.
Belfry better be glad they have a consistent kicker.
