It's obvious that there's some very visible frustration that wasn't there in the past, but that probably comes from problems that have already came up but weren't dealt with entirely and disillusionment with the realities of the Kentucky football job after more than a decade at the helm.
I get more of a sense that he's hurt by the fans turning on him than him wanting to be somewhere else (or at least taking a much better opportunity that anyone unbiased wouldn't blame him for taking).
If he's ultimately considered for Florida State or to replace Venables at Oklahoma, I think that'd be understood, but I doubt he's daydreaming of jobs at programs that are historically on Kentucky's level.
Either way, Kentucky fans should be careful what we wish for, because we'll miss him if he's gone.
He obviously doesn't have one foot out the door now, I was referring to last season with the A&M drama.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt early on bc the cupboard was bare bones from Joker Phillips, I knew the first few seasons would be struggles, that it would take at least 4-5 years for him to establish his culture and get the players & coaching staff that he wanted. We started seeing some success, I guess the success as UK fans we've become accustomed to, not BCS games or CFP appearances, but just going out there and competing in a tough conference, winning 7-9 games, making a bowl game and even winning them. Even made history and won 10 games, beat a good Penn St team in the Citrus Bowl. Put players in the NFL who are still having success now.
Even after all the good I mentioned above, there's been just as, if not more bad/negative. One common denominator has been undisciplined football, some of the penalties we've seen committed have been some of the most bonehead, backbreaking penalties ever, just puts teams in a bad situation. Lack of preparedness, especially off a bye week, not just talking about this season, but look at the previous seasons, 5-8 after a bye in his tenure. Then the previously mentioned 10 win season, Kentucky has 4 in program history, Stoops had 2 under his belt, but that was taken away due to infractions laid down on them by the NCAA. Then the whole back & forth with Cal about the football & basketball school, the "pony up" comments, and the way the A&M debacle was handled, conservative play calling, saying that the red zone issues have nothing to do with him, puts it all on his OC (4 in 5 years), no accountability!
Maybe we have been spoiled as fans, I for one haven't been spoiled but can't speak for everyone on here who's a fan or the whole fanbase in general. Like I've said before I always hope for the best but expect the worst with Kentucky Football, wouldn't matter if Nick Saban took over as HC. I'll always be a fan, but I am a realist at the same time, I was never spoiled by the moderate success we have had, I always have enjoyed it and cheered, rooted and hollered my ass off, but it's never changed my outlook as a fan. Maybe it is time for a change, one name I've seen time & time again is Jon Sumrall, he's been successful everywhere he's been, would love to see him on the sidelines in Lexington. But, money talks and a $44 million buyout is something Ol Mitch isn't about to get into.
You make really good points. Can't say I disagree at all with the problems coming off of a bye or with penalties.
In many ways, I couldn't care less if a 10 win season is vacated. I saw it happen just like I saw Louisville win a Natty in 2013. Actually sided with Stoops in all the Cal drama.
The "pony up" statement was tone deaf and probably something he wishes he could take back, but there's also truth in it.
