I remember the 81 game - seemed like everyone in the state was planning to go. I think both were top five teams.
To be fair though, Middlesboro has been a lot better lately after a few rough years. They were in the state semifinals three years ago in 2A and won nine games last year and made it to the regional finals.

Maybe the first time I agree with HCS. Middlesboro is a small school and if they don't lose their best athletes to bigger schools they can be a force in Class A from now on.


I know this comes across as trying to be disagreeable, but I don't know about being a force for a few years. I think losing Grigsby was a huge blow, and he was the big reason why Middlesboro was good the past few years, along with coach French. I expect Wburg to win the district this year, but Middlesboro has the best chance to beat them even as a much younger team this year than last.
All I mean is Middlesboro has a lot of good athletes and if they keep them all they will be good. Same with Williamsburg and Harlan.
