Bobby Keith would be recruiting some players after he rolled over.

Bobby Keith was also one of the best strategists/tacticians and motivators to ever coach in Kentucky. Lets give him a little credit.

I don't know of any significant transfers during his dominant runs during the 70's and 80's. He went to back to back finals with a team of entirely local kids at a school that didn't have a huge student population. If there was an impact transfer before 1989, I'm unsure of who it'd have been.

There were some players in the 90's who found their way there (I'll give you a hint: most actually had family in the community and/or very deep ties to the area), but it isn't as if it's unheard of that a program that's reached the level he'd gotten the program to would have families coming to them in hopes of giving their children opportunities and exposure that they might not have gotten otherwise. I don't know that this is that unique for any program-- if it were your kid you might see it differently.

Keith was a great coach - one of the best all-time. Clay wasn't exactly a small school then though. I think they had something like 1,200 at one point.
I think Woody Asher played at Red Bird before helping Clay win the region in 85 and 86. My guess is Cumberland and Cawood would have won those two years if not for adding Asher. Both games came down to the last minute.
