Democrats are making a huge mistake continuing to engage in witch hunts against Trump. He may be the only Republican who could possibly lose to a candidate as bad as Joe Biden or Kamala Harris in 2024. They should be trying to make it easier for him to win the Republican nomination. A debate between Ron DeSantis and Joe Biden would be borderline elder abuse.

Democrats haven't exactly been known for being very smart when it comes to things like winning elections. I hope Trump is the GOP nominee but I'm doubting that he will be. What will be interesting is what Trump will do if he loses. He has no loyalty to any party and he won't accept losing gracefully. He seems to despise Desantis' encroaching on his own popularity with GOP voters.  I could see him running  an Independent if he loses to Desantis in order to foil the GOP victory.

Also, if it looks like Trump is on the path to victory in the GOP primary, it will be interesting to see if Liz Cheney enters the race as an Independent to foil Trump. I saw an interview where she was asked about this scenario and all she would say is that she will do whatever she has to do to see that he will never become President again.
I doubt that Liz Cheney will ever be a factor in Republican national politics again. She has more support among Democrats than Republicans and her assistance to Democrats taking political prisoners will follow her in any future campaign if she runs as a Republican. Trump's viability as a candidate is totally unrelated to anything that Cheney might do. The Cheneys despise Trump because of the slimy 2016 primary campaign that he ran against Jeb Bush. She is not the paragon of virtue that Democrats try to portray, but is, instead, what little is left of the Bush political dynasty.

I think its Desantis' race to lose on the Republican side. However, the Trump card is gonna keep things interesting. Does Trump have enough support in the GOP to run over Desantis like he ran over all of the competition in '16?  It feels like he has lost some energy and momentum from that initial run and seems like a  lot of GOP voters have kinda tired of him .  Trump, though, will make things interesting and difficult for those who oppose him. I agree with you about Liz's popularity on the Republican side. She barely registers in the polls. She would garner much more support from Democrats, I believe, that she would from Republicans.
