Corbin-Franklin County : The Ultimate "Trap" Game ???
#1
I know, I know , you say how could a state- semi  game ever be a trap game ? Surely,  the favorite would be poised and focused for a chance to play the following week on Kroger Field for a state championship.  But , here me out.

The Johnson Central game is one that Hounds had been primed for since November of last season when the Golden Eagles ended Corbin's season for the second year in a row. They knew the likelihood was good that they would meet JC again and so much thought and preparation went in to getting ready for that titanic matchup. That regional win last night was a year in the making. Now, it's done and there's a somewhat unexpected, but familiar foe awaiting in the Franklin County Flyers.

Franklin is a team that has had it's struggles this season. They were all but written off by a lot of folks weeks ago.  Corbin won easily last season by 20 at home and then pummelled them  40-20 earlier in the season, in a game that wasn't nearly that close.  In a three-game stretch, beginning with the Corbin game, the Flyers were outscored  120-49 . Throw in a week 10 thrashing by Central  24-0 and it would be easy for the Hounds to write off Franklin as a non-threat and look forward to Boyle County and Kroger Field.

Now, Boyle County is likely gonna be awaiting if Corbin passes next week's test.  Is it unrealistic to assume that 16 and 17 year-old kids might be looking forward a bit to playing the team that most pundits  have had ranked either #1 or #2 , along with you ,  all season long ?  Not only that but it's your former coach, who has been winning state title after state title since trading in his Corbin Red & Silver for the Black & Gold of Boyle.

Bookend games with Johnson Central and potentially Boyle County, makes the game in the middle, with a perceived "also-ran,"  a very dangerous game, in my opinion.  Franklin has a star RB in Kaden Moorman, who can carry a team on his back. Teams with superstars like Moorman are extra dangerous because he can generate points all on his own.

I think it would behoove the Redhounds to be as primed and focused for Franklin County as they were for Johnson Central.  We've seen it in sports innumerable times. When have a let down from an emotional game the previous week or you look forward to a huge game the following week,  you have a recipe for a premature and unexpected end to a season.

Not saying it will happen, but I am saying it wouldn't be the first time that a team has looked ahead and got bitten for doing so. What do you all think? I think this is a real trap game for Corbin. They better be ready to play a really good Franklin County team for 48 minutes or they may be viewing Kroger Field from home, rather than from the sidelines.

What do some of you think?  Do you view this as a trap game or do you think it's impossible for a state semi to be a trap game?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts
