Thought I'd bring this over from the other thread in case some folks wanted to read it here.
Fun Facts from the first couple of rounds :
** Bowling Green and South Oldham both posted shutouts in each of their first and second round games. BG outscored its two opponents 83-0 and South Oldham outscored its two opponents 88-0 . Something will have to give on Friday because these two teams will play each other in Bowling Green.
** In addition to Bowling Green and South Oldham, there are three teams that have yet to allow a single point in the playoffs--- Corbin, Mason County, and Fairdale . Corbin has yet to allow a point in the months of October and November... 24 consecutive scoreless quarters.
** Seneca won in shutout fashion 50-0 in their first round game vs Bullitt Central but lost 46-0 in round two to South Oldham.
** Corbin has the largest total point differential thus far of any team, winning 55-0 over Harlan County and 49-0 over Letcher County Central, for a total winning margin of 104 points in the two games. Beechwood is second with a total point differential in two games of 103.
**Letcher County Central had the biggest net change in margin of win in round one to margin of loss in round two with a change of -104. They beat Knox Central by 55, then lost to Corbin by 49.
***Four teams --- KCD , Campbellsville, Bethlehem, and Williamsburg , all played their first game in the playoffs on Friday. Each received a bye in round one. Of the four, only KCD advanced.
** Beechwood has scored the most points in two games (117).
** The #1 district seed to suffer the largest loss Friday was Walton Verona. #2 seed Lloyd Memorial ousted WV by a score of 41-0.
** In round one, Frankfort beat Ludlow 50-13 but lost to Newport Central Catholic by the identical 50-13 score in round two.
** Paul Lawrence Dunbar's close 45-42 home loss to Madison Central was their second close setback to the Indians on the season. They lost 29-28 in Richmond in the second game of the season.
** Holy Cross(Louisville) was the only district #3 to advance to the third round, beating #1 Campbellsville 28-19. Not only did #3 Holy Cross advance but they will host district winner Crittenden County in Round three because they have a higher RPI.
** The only overtime game thus far in the playoffs was the Male win over top-ranked St.X .
** Barring a couple of upsets in round three , it is likely that Trinity , if they win at Bryan Station on Friday, will play on the road again in round four. That means the Louisville powerhouse would be the visiting team for the second, third, and fourth round games. When has that ever happened?
** There will be four games in Round three that will feature the top RPI team in their respective class vs. the lowest reamining RPI team in the class: In 6A , #3 Ballard vs #11 Madison Central ; In 3A , #1 CAL vs #17 Padudah Tilghman ; In 2A , #1 Beechwood vs. #12 Shelby Valley ; in 1A , #1 Pikeville vs #18 Paintsville
** A Corbin win over Johnson Central , coupled with a Warren East win over Franklin County and a Central win at Logan County would set up a Central- Corbin rematch at Campbell Field in the State Semis. It would be the first meeting between the schools since the 2018 State Title game and the subsequent post-game "fireworks."
