It sounds like it was a solid opening game by both teams. I think that Pikeville will be favored against every other team on their schedule with the exception of Madison Central and they have to be considered a good bet to win another state title this season.

Corbin had an outstanding team last season and too many people have let the Johnson Central loss affect their opinions of this year's team. Corbin is a top 4A contender and has the talent to reach the finals.

Teams are almost always better off settling on a single quarterback, but it is not a bad thing to give two strong quarterback candidates plenty of snaps during competitive early season games to build depth at the most important position on the team. Even if it costs a team an early season loss or two, having a backup quarterback with quality experience at the position is great insurance for the rest of the season. 

The realistic goal of both of these teams is to win state titles this season and I don't fault either coach for giving two quarterbacks extended tryouts. I don't think that either team hurt their chances of achieving that goal last night.

In the era of RPI it's win at all costs and then develop depth when you can. Otherwise, you may find yourself on the wrong end of a huge homefield advantage. Pikeville/Raceland is the perfect example. Pikeville has 1 win at Raceland and Raceland has never won at Pikeville. Like RPI or not (I don't) this is where we are. 

Having said that, I'm over this loss. Kind of like Madison Central last year where we should have won and didn't and that turned out ok. I am with the other Pikeville posters on here - total faith in getting the kinks worked out and firing on all cylinders come playoff time.

What did you do with the guy who argued that a long bus ride is not a factor in winning a football game?   The RPI is a joke but if the best team in any class cannot win a road playoff game, then maybe they don't really belong in the state finals.

Have you been hacked? Do you really need an explanation of how riding in a bus and a huge home field advantage are two entirely different things? Really? And I won't try to argue your other attempted point. In case you really don't know I will just tell you that every single team in every single level of football covets the home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Home field advantage is a real thing and part of that advantage is the short trip to the stadium compared to your counterparts. The bus trip and home field advantage are not two entirely different things. Do you really need an explanation of what home field advantage includes? 

You're right Hoot. Getting on those buses was just more than the Pikeville boys could bear. I heard after this fiasco whenever they have to play at Hazard Paintsville or Belfry they are going the day before to hopefully get their legs back by game time.
