Paintsville 70 Betsy Layne 63
#3
I agree they are going to be a decent team in the Region. Their press worked when they got the first trap but if the ball got to the middle of the floor, Paintsville had a open shot at the rim all night. Coach Newsome likes to run a lot of 5 out against a man defense. I believe that's why Frazier didn't get up a lot of shots. Players are going to go one on one instead of feeding Jordan in the post which is where he likes to get it. Coach Short put a emphasis on posting him up and letting him get his paint touches. Will be interesting to see how their offense evolves going forward. I thought they played the passing lane well tonight but their on ball Defense was lacking. If Paintsville got into a half court set their was a lot of blow byes and giving up the baseline.

As far as Paintsville goes, they disappointed me tonight. Looks like they don't play any pressure defense and BL got what they wanted most of the time on offense with a drive to the basket. If Fugate doesn't make a lot of shots this Paintsville team will struggle. After one game it looks like they're gonna miss Keaton a whole lot.

Overall even with the Tigers win, I think BL is a better team but its still early. BL has to get better with their on ball defense and actually stopped someone one on one if they want to compete for the region. Paintsville looks as if they will go as far as Fugate takes them.
