Sometimes you can use ppg and rpg as statistics to judge players and sometimes you can’t. I’m sure in choosing James they may have factored in block shots as well. I assume he led the region in this category since he became the state’s all time Block leader this season.
If you just look at stats, in 2012 there was over a 100 players that averaged more points than Anthony Davis and several that averaged more rebounds than he did. Yet he was the 2012 ncaa player of the year. So sometimes I’m sure it’s based on stats and sometimes it’s not.
