I just read an article about him. It said he went 0-10 in his first season as head coach and he put together 39 notebooks for the first practice that year and only 6 players showed up. He won his first state championship in his 7th season and has had 14 undefeated seasons.

The school only started in 1962. I would guess his first year 1969 was their 1st season with a football team. Picture the run Mayfield has been on the last decade with about 1 loss a year and 5 titles in a decade, and he has matched that run every decade for 50 years! Bet no team in Louisiana is happy about being in the same classification as them.
