Not true Hoot, I never said that there was a national sales tax on top of the sales tax collected by each state. You're twisting my words. The sales tax is collected and then distributed to the federal government even though it's supposed to go to the state. Do you honestly believe that the state gives the money where it's supposed to go? No, they don't. Assuming you pay taxes, they give it to the federal government who puts YOUR tax dollars to waste using the money on various projects totally unrelated to what it's designed to do.

We've seen countless Republican administrations waste money and increase the national debt.

And as to Jetpilot's post, you can clearly see here how judgmental Republicans are toward the poor which is very unfortunate. This might be a hard question for you guys but should someone who makes very little money have to be burdened paying taxes in addition to all of the other financial burdens they have?

Republican answer yes, but compassionate answer no, friendo.

When you have dug yourself into a rhetorical hole, the first thing you should do is to stop digging.

There is no national sales tax. You should have just acknowledged that you were mistaken. Instead, you doubled down by claiming that state sales taxes are actually not state taxes at all, but states collecting a federal sales tax and then sending it to Washington, DC.

Now, that hole that you have dug yourself into is collapsing upon your head.

FYI, not all states impose sales taxes. Among states that do collect sales taxes, rates range from 4 percent to 7.25 percent. A sales tax of 11.5 percent is imposed by Puerto Rico, but FYI, Puerto Rico is not a state.

As JetPilot said, liberals do not know much about taxes because most of them don't pay many taxes. What he did not say is that those liberals who do pay taxes really don't know much about how our economy works nor do they have a basic understanding of much else.
