I understand your point, I just don't completely agree with it. Republicans could not have passed any spending bills during his first two years in office without his signature - or without the GOP teaming with Democrats to override his vetoes. McConnell is at least as bad as Ryan was when it comes to securing our borders, IMO - maybe worse. He is a master at giving Republicans a chance to vote on both sides of an issue for political reasons.

Republican candidates like Flake can often point to failed amendments as evidence that they have been on the right side of an issue, regardless of which side is best for them during a campaign. Most voters are unwilling to invest the time to determine whether the person who they helped elect has kept or broken previous campaign promises.

It is the voter apathy that prevents so many of them from casting informed votes that makes me skeptical about living to see a secure southern border in this country. For the most part, voters do not hold the elected officials that they help elect accountable for failing to keep their campaign promises - or for failing to at least make a good faith effort to keep those promises.
