WMDJ reports Kevin Spurlock resigns as head coach of Floyd Central
#72
The world has changed. What was once acceptable is no longer acceptable. What was once frowned upon is now accepted.

This is how the world works. While some may not view the coach's actions to be that "bad" there were 7 kids who quit because of it. The actions themselves may have not warranted a firing. But creating a culture where 7 kids see the only acceptable solution as quitting is obviously a toxic culture.

The coach may not be a bad person, but the health of the program is on his shoulders and the health of the program suffered mightily under his watch.

The women's program at UK went through a similar situation a couple of years ago under Matthew Mitchell. Several players transferred and he replaced his entire staff. Details of what happened never really came out but what's obvious is that Mitchell recognized that HE needed to make changes.

That's the part that I don't think that Spurlock completely understands. He seems intent to passively blame others. Sort of like when Bobby Knight was forced out at IU. It was always somebody else's fault. Spurlock needed to evolve as a coach. And he didn't. That's why we are where we are.
