WMDJ reports Kevin Spurlock resigns as head coach of Floyd Central

You also know that no other school district pays that much.....right?

Spurlock isn’t that hardcore of a coach, he expects kids to play hard, demands respect, and doesn’t play favorites.

I think most people know that Coach “JJ” James is Larry James the MC superintendent brother, however JJ was the coach before Larry got the superintendent job, no rules broken and should he be punished because Larry got hired?

People have expressed their opinions that coaches don’t get paid enough to coach and I agree, so my question is, does Sheldon Clark pay to much or are the other high schools just a bunch of “cheap asses” or have they found better ways to hide the money???

Kevin Spurlock may be “hardcore or old school” however there are some lines that should not crossed. If a coach wants respect maybe they need to earn it first and lead by example. Behavior will change attitude, good or bad...

I grew up with a father and coaches that liked to cuss and I think I turned out ok, but I wonder how things would of been if I got less verbal abuse... who knows, I sometimes slip and cuss and I know for me, it doesn’t make me a bigger or better person, but I’m human and make mistakes, but trying to change.

A coach’s conduct not only reflects on them but on the kids, the team, the school and the community.

I clearly don’t know who should set the code of conduct for coaches, but most if not all schools have rules for teacher conduct, so why not coaches? If cussing is alright for HS boys is ok to cuss elementary or middle school kids to motivate them? If a coach uses the “P” word for the boys can they use it with the girls too??? I know there are lots of ways to motivate players, however I’m not sure verbal abuse and cussing is the best way, but we can agree to disagree on this one point.

It’s a new day at Floyd Central and Shawn Hager is the coach now and it’s his decision who can be on his team and who can’t... and yes Shawn will push the players hard to get their best as he should....
