WMDJ reports Kevin Spurlock resigns as head coach of Floyd Central

There’s a reason people get degrees to become teachers as well. You are making it sound like some high profile college coaching deal where they pay someone X amount of dollars in a contract clause to terminate them.

Coaching positions are not tenured and contracts are a year to year basis. Each year you sign a new one. Each year you agree to take a minuscule amount of pay for an insurmountable load of work.

Literally — you have to be REHIRED each year as a coach.

Please understand the process.
Well said but I don't totally agree with that $5000.00 number, sometimes they can come up with creative ways to help get extra money to a coach. They may give the coach some extended days, like a principal gets because they work more than a standard 180 day teacher contract, or they may create some type of special position for them and pay them extra and give them more extended days or maybe create a additional job that can be paid with Title 1 money which is handled at the school level, or maybe let them use the school gyms to hold camps and keep the camp fees, and it all depends on how bad they want a certain coach, so what starts at $5000.00 may end up being $20,000.00 or more a year when the smoke clears.

I believe coaches should be paid and paid well, coaching is hard work and it's just another form of teaching. Most coaches I know, coach because they love the game but they want to be paid too.
