Should we change the way we currently do district basetball?
#3
I think it's a terrible idea to mess with a system that has so much tradition and history and has worked well for so many years. If you alternate districts you take away the significance of district titles because you have no consistency. Clay could win the 49th one year, then the 52nd the next, so what do you do with those lists on the gym walls around the state? Things like that confuse casual fans and make the sport harder to follow.
You can’t make schools happy that complain about being stuck in one district or the other. They could have their best team in a decade, be ready to win the district and someone gets shifted in that year that beats them. Just play and quit looking for the easy way out.
As far as eliminating districts, you would be taking out an important week of revenue for high schools who draw much bigger crowds that week than they do during the 13 weeks of the regular season. What if you get moved the year you are supposed to host? High schools simply can’t afford to lose any revenue and won’t give away big gates for an idea that really doesn’t solve anything. If you don’t like district tournaments stay home that week.
It sounds like someone wanting to make change for the sake of change or to have something to talk about during the dead period.
