Divine Right of Kings? Presidential Popery?

The impact on American culture that King Obama took concerning his unconstitutional, royal decrees regarding illegal aliens cannot be overstated. Unfortunately, I have a likely illegal alien from Mexico living in my neighborhood. My wife politely informed him of the many free English classes for recent immigrants. His response was a statement that he has no interest in learning English. It is my experience that his attitude toward assimilation is more common among Mexican immigrants to this country than any other group.

I recently renewed my interest in amateur radio and purchased a software-defined radio for my laptop. Do you remember when we were young and listened to music on AM radio? Sometimes radio stations broadcasting in Spanish interfered with American stations during the evening.

When I tune across the AM band during the daytime in this area, I find almost as many American stations broadcasting in Spanish as English. Why? Because there are so many illegal immigrants who prefer not to learn English. Spanish is spoken in so many restaurants and retail businesses in many DC area neighborhoods, it is very easy for non-English speakers to get by with no problem.

Immigrants from most other countries are generally eager to learn English, learn our language and become assimilated to this country's culture as our own ancestors did. (Obviously, a large percentage of Muslim immigrants share the disdain for becoming Americans that my Mexican neighbor has.)

I get the impression that established immigrants from Mexico, such as those who own Mexican Restaurants or those who own construction companies for example, are here for the long haul. But I don't believe they intend to retire here in the USA, which of course means they will be taking their acquired wealth with them back to Mexico. And as for the endless stream of Mexican green card workers and the like that they employ? They are certainly only here as long as there is money to be made. Please do not misunderstand me, I have met some folks from Mexico who're very good people and I like them as much as I do anybody else. But for the vast majority, nice or not, America is just a piñata. And I haven't even mentioned the fact that of the millions of Mexican immigrants in this country, over 50% legal or illegal, are on welfare. According to USA Today, the Mexican population costs the American taxpayer north of 110 billion annually.

But because I think most Mexican immigrants sort of just barely tolerate life in this country, I do not believe most of them feel any particular need (or desire) to learn English. I saw a crew of Mexican workers come in to replace a storm damaged roof on my neighbor's house. Two story house with a detached garage. In the dog days of summer mind you, they had the old roof torn off, the new roof nailed on and all trimmed out. As well as having every scrap of debris picked up and loaded out in 4 1/2 hours. That my friend is fast. Compare workers like that to Americans whose primary concern is making up what they feel, is a plausible excuse for not coming to work at all. That is if they even have a job in the first place. According to Nancy Pelosi, America has given rise to a generation of aspiring artists who deserve welfare payments.

At any rate, I remember the normal times in this country. And frankly, they are not that long past. People largely took responsibility for their own actions, and were self sufficient. Going to work to 'make it' a scant decade ago, was a privilege which was faced full tilt. So it will take a lot more than revisionist blather on the parts of San Fran Nan or Sombrero to convince me all that didn't really happen. I will be at the polling place this fall to vote for Republicans, warts and all. At this point pragmatic logic is the best option from among a very poor list of options. Unfortunate, but as with anything, apathy does not exactly produce a bumper crop.
