Open Job: Bryan Station

I've heard too many good things and had too many people whose opinions I greatly respect vouch for Charlotte Court and/or Nimbo to consider them to just be an "AAU" program that's lumped in with all the rest.

Most AAU coaches look like they've never played themselves and just collect talent by getting funded. Nimbo played collegiately for four years and is one of the most recognized players in Station history, so it's fair to say that he brings a little more to the table than the average AAU "coach".

Congratulations and good luck to Nimbo!

Those who don’t know the name can start here:

Thanks to my pal RJW24 for sticking up for Charlotte Court. As RJW points out, they’ve never been a put-together-winner, but always a real grass roots program. Part of Nimbo’s motivation in starting the program was a tragedy in his own family, and he wanted to give kids from the housing project in Lexington positive activity and motivation. With the trend away from playground basketball, the team morphed into being representative of central Ky as a whole.

In the here-today, gone tomorrow world of AAU ball, Charlotte Court has lasted 2+ decades, and always stressed values of personal behavior and accountability, and academic achievement. They have sent dozens of kids to college ball at all levels, often doing more than the kids’ high school coaches to get the kids in. As an example of their kids, this month the 6 core members of Charlotte Court’s class of 2014 all become graduates of the college class of 2018 – except for a couple of show-offs who graduated early. (Congrats to Lance Blakely of Lafayette/Union College, Darion Burns of Fleming Co/ Georgetown College, Austin Crisp of Fleming Co/ Alice Lloyd, Robert Dence of Lexington Catholic/ Transylvania, Will Henderson of West Jessamine/ Asbury, and Shaun Johnson of Mason Co/ Campbellsville College.)

At their peak, Court had 6-7 boys’ teams and a couple of girls’ teams. So Nimbo should be good for Station and able to build on the job Johnson has done there, able to administer as well as coach. Charlotte Court coach Oreese was an assistant at Station under Ligon and has lots of respect in the community for his volunteering at the Dunbar Center as well as his coaching, maybe Nimbo will call on him for some coaching help. Hope it’s all great for the kids! Count me as a parent really pleased with my son's experience with Charlotte Court and expecting good things will happen at Station!
