I don’t understand how a few post in this thread state that Estill County was a “dark horse” or “underdogs” or “overlooked”??? Their record is 26-7. They have wins over 16th region champ Boyd County in a tournament at Morehead. They lost to 10th region contender Paris by 4 in a tournament. Lost to South Laurel by only 6 in a tournament at Clay (the same SL that lost by 2 to Corbin in the 13th region championship. They lost on the road by 4 to a Somerset team won their All A region and and was semi finalist in the 12th region tourney. They beat 12th region contender Pulaski County. They beat several good Bluegrass area teams. They’ve won like 19 out of their last 20 or 21 games, not sure of the exact number on that.
I don’t understand with the schedule they’ve played and the record they have how anyone could have considered them an underdog or upset win in this game. Bottom line is Estill County has a very good team. And they proved tonight they are the best in the 14th region in this basketball season.

This is the first time in history the school has made it to Rupp. When Wichita State made their first big run in the NCAA Tournament, even though they were as good as anyone, they were labeled the underdog (unfairly). People just aren't used to seeing Estill as a contender, but the Engineers shut them up.
