Saw this one coming. Seat getting hot in Clay already?

The seat has been hot since the moment he took it over. Say what you want about Marcum, but the man had practically brought the program back from the dead.

Give Mike Jones credit. He came in to an unenviable situation where he was following Bobby Keith and he brought the program one (in 2001... where he got to State and won a game) and was close in some other years [but for Aaron Cash being a once in a generation player for Rockcastle County at the same time he came in and the narrative may be far different].

Marcum had a good record, and, from all accounts, seemed to be on good terms with what, for lack of a better term, I'd call "the old guard" (i.e., those involved with the program during it's heyday who'd earned the right to have their voice heard because deep down, they wanted what was best for the program too).

Personally, I think that if you give Grey the team that Marcum won the region with in 2012-2013, you’d probably be hearing all the excuses: it’d be a "rebuilding year" where the team was looking forward to the future and the sunshine pumpers supporting him were talking up the likes of OBI, Redbird, Jackson County, Whitley County, etc. as "dangerous" teams who were "better than their record indicates" despite the fact that they are the same types of teams that Clay County still held serve against in even down years.

I have left the area since Marcum left and neither know the entire story as to precisely how that decision went down, nor do I wish to speculate as to precisely what went down or pretend to act like I know exactly what transpired, but I will say this: as the head coach, Glenn is just in over his head—this is not a one year problem and will only continue to get worse. Whether or not that is an indictment solely of his ability as a head coach or the culmination of a multitude of factors including the complete and utter cluelessness of some of those around him is an entirely different animal—however, at this point, it would seem that he has gotten most everything he’s wanted— and now we see exactly how that is working out.

I do not think that there has been a single point in (either) tenure as head coach where he's had the confidence and support of the community.

Simply put, I think that there are multiple realistic candidates out there who would be better at the helm than what he’s already repeatedly shown. To lose the support of a fan base as passionate as Clay County in the manner in which he’s done is... well, it’s been something.
