First of all I want to go on the record of saying I am a proud Corbin fan, and supporter. I do not condone the comment that was made,but unlike so many I realize it is not my place to pass judgement on any kid for displaying a moment of weakness and bad character. I have watched the video countless times, and there is honestly no way to spin what was said, it was said. Is that a statement that reflects every person in Corbin, absolutely not. If you ask in a one on one setting 99 percent would agree, it is not that we have taken a side in this matter he was clearly in the wrong by his words. There is no opinion that isn’t going to make someone mad and cause a negative response back.
With all that being said the comment about kid from south aggravates me to no extreme, I have coached Ramey and he is one of the hardest workers in the region and in my opinion may be the best in basketball out of all the kids spoken about. I have coached him in baseball and I know this kids ability. To overcome and compete at the level he plays in any sport says wonders about his work ethic.
I for one hope the kid from Knox and Corbin play at the next level, I want every kid in our area to be given the chance to extend there careers as all of us should. We are the adults and are suppose to be the ones encouraging success for the youth not be blinded by jealousy and a moment of weakness. They both have made bad choices this season and not that two wrongs make a right but the mom from Knox posted a comment that said it ok my son called him a cracker after the spanking they took last game, no one mentioned that. No one also ask the question why did the kid recording do it, why was there a comment on the intro with an emoji scratching its chin. Maybe the one recording had a motive to set the speaker up we don’t know what was said prior to the recording other then he ask him what was that. I am not making excuses by no means, I am just saying that it is called entrapment when an individual sets another up to fail. As for one I don’t particularly care for the speaker but I don’t want him to loose 19 years hardwork for 9 seconds of ingnorance. I think until we know all the details we shouldn’t pass judgement.
Last but not least, Corbin schools cannot do anything in this matter as it was not on school property or a school function. Coach P is an outstanding coach a leader of our kids, not one bad word to say about him. He is a first class guy who is passionate about teaching kids the game that he loved to play, and I know he doesn’t condone this either, but he has a job and his job is to teach and win games. You can’t expect him to remove the kid from his team, what kind of mentor would give up on a kid whether it be superstar or water boy. I think the boy that recorded it and posted it is as guilty or more guilty than the one who made the comment. I noticed that several comments said that the boy who said it posted it and that again was not true. Now to the apology, we may not have thought the wording was right choice but who can argue his choice of words created this situation why would we think the apology would be the right choice. That convinced me that it was his own words not one that was prepaired by anyone else, so unless anyone has a crystal ball that can define his heart we will never know if he meant it or not but we do know it was his words and we as adults need to forgive as we have been forgivin. I think both kc kid and Corbin kid should take a diversity and anger management every Saturday until they can play a game of one on one and not hate on each other, it may save both there lives and futures.

Also, he used the words 'false light'. I don't know many non-attorneys who use that term either.

I grew up in Oneida, and that the Corbin administration sat by and didn't do anything when kids were waving nooses at the black kids on their team during the 2003 All "A" Classic was just a complete failure. If we are talking 'legal terms' like entrapment and false light, then I think that there's some case law that will show that a noose waved at a black person can be perceived as a threat that could bring punishment.

The horror stories you hear about Corbin athletics (i.e., have heard multiple close friends talk about the player's refusal to shake hands with black players, etc.) are why everyone is outraged. I will give him this, if he didn't go to Corbin High School, I don't think that this story is as big as it is. That's not his fault, but a failure of the system around him.

He made a mistake and kids are dumb and do dumb things sometimes, so no, I don't think he should lose 19 years of hard work, but at the same time, I think he's going to end up being the kid who, because of the social media age, will end up paying for the Corbin school system and community's consistently turning a blind eye to problems like this over and over.

That you have a yearbook photo like the one that was ran this past year, a viral social media video that people are defending and trying to justify by saying things like "he was called a cracker though" (when that word has almost no equivalence to the power of the n-word), "he's just a kid", "everyone else is doing it", "it's just trash talk and kids being kids", "this is an internal basketball matter", etc., is really doing more to fan the flames and keep the dialogue alive.

His apology was, at best, poorly worded. The response of the school, at best, seemed tone deaf. I think that earlier today, KSR mentioned that transparency in dealing with this is going to be paramount.

A long suspension might give things awhile to cool down, and while I'm not condoning this type of action, you know that, because of his history, there'll be opposing players and members of opposing student sections that go extremely hard on the young man. Another ugly incident, especially one at Corbin High School during a game that gets ugly, and it could wind up being an even bigger problem for him, as well as Corbin High School, and at some point, if ugly incidents keep occurring, it is going to be out of their control and in the hands of the KHSAA or a court system-- talk about getting ugly then.

I will say this, if I were the coach of a team like Doss and I'm going to Corbin High School, I'm asking my administration to reach out to the school and get assurances that there will be security and I'm also probably taking someone to film the behavior of the fans, etc., as a measure of documenting any incidents.
