The “luck” factor is a large reason the one class system has worked.

Why don’t we just call this what it is. The Big School Virginia Plan. And I can see why Scott County and others would want it this way. However, with as much consolidation that continues to occur, interest in high school sports will eventually fade away and the voices of the small schools will be heard and ignored until we have classes that no one wants to watch. (Mini rant)

Unfortunately, that time is not "eventually" it is now. There was a time, and not too long ago, when it was common to have 16,000-18,000 and sometimes 20,000 at a Sweet 16 session. Now, we are getting 10,000-12,000 if we are lucky. I can remember every seat being taken at Corbin's Gilliam Gym at 5:30 PM for a game that started at 7:30 PM. Now, I can walk into any gym in the state and get a good seat for any game. I remember long lines at Bell County in the late afternoon waiting for the doors to open for the regional tournament that night. There is no "eventually fade away." It's already fading, and fast. The change to playing the finals on Sunday was a step in the right direction. However, there is room for more changes. Doing things because of tradition and "that's the way it's always been done" isn't working anymore.
