8 People In Kentucky Have Died From Complications To Flu
#1
LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)-- Eight people in the Bluegrass have died from complications related to the flu.

The health department recently learned there have now been three flu-related deaths in Lexington, all cases involving the elderly.

Elderly folks are among the most vulnerable to the flu, especially when dealing with other illnesses that make their immune systems work overtime.

A health department spokesperson says that was the case in all three of these Lexington case, a tragic reminder that the flu can be deadly.

They also want to remind the community that anyone, no matter your age, should get a flu shot to protect the elderly and young children.

"Across the state, the flu is in widespread activity, it's out there," said Kevin Hall, Communications Officer at LFCHD. "Go to any doctor, any nurse, talk to any of them and they'll tell you our offices are full and people are sick."

Health Department officials say many people don't get the flu vaccine after the holidays, but peak flu season is around January and February, so if you haven't yet, make getting the vaccine part of your New Year's Resolutions.
