WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) - An elderly couple said it was their intention to give nearly 60 pounds of high-grade marijuana as Christmas gifts, according to a report by the York News Times. The pot was found during a traffic stop initiated by the York County Sheriff's Department in Nebraska.
The report says the officers spotted the couple's Toyota Tacoma driving over the center line and did not signal when changing lanes. When the police pulled the vehicle over, they could smell the raw marijuana emanating from the car.
The York News Times reports, Patrick Jiron, 80, and his wife Barbara Jiron, 70, were taken into custody. However, only Patrick remains in jail, on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and have no drug tax stamp.
According to the newspaper report, the estimated street value of the pot is $336,000.
