LEXINGTON, Ky. â When Eric C. Conn pleaded guilty to federal theft and bribery charges back in March, that set into motion a series of events that saw the former disability attorney owing millions in criminal and civil penalties.
So far, however, forfeited assets have resulted in only about $250,000 being paid to the government. After his conviction, authorities seized $150,000 following the sale of Connâs home, as well as four bank accounts totaling $103,000.
According to court records unsealed yesterday, a judge earlier this month ordered Conn to turn over two additional bank accounts, as well as a Toyota Highlander. This time, however, the accounts and vehicle are not in his name.
Prosecutors say Conn placed the accounts and vehicle in the names of other people in order to avoid having them seized.
Still, the new forfeitures do little to erase Connâs debts. Court records indicate the bank accounts contain only $135,000, while the Toyota is valued at $25,000.
The government should have better luck when Connâs office and adjacent land are sold. That property has been valued at over $650,000.
