Danville 35 Mayfield 21 (2A State Championship)
mysonis55 Wrote:Well, obviously not my job. They were there but, our bunch seemed to be unable to get out their own way. It's pretty simple, the Ads, as I said earlier, played better than expected. Also the Cards killed themselves. Take the first drive, you have 2 penalties and then a dropped pass, that was gonna be a first down. If you play like that at state, you get beat. I think our boys showed some youth. That over pursuit on the reverse, I'm sure our coaching staff had warned them not to do. Sometimes you just run into a good team and don't win. Nothing to be ashamed of. We weren't even supposed to be there. The Ads should be proud.

Danville did not play better than expected at all. I thought they were off a bit, didn't use VanCleave quiet enough on O. And then their QB getting hurt for a series or two wasn't something you expect either. I predicted this game, perfectly. I said 35-21, a week before the game. Although I thought the Ads would be up 28-0, something like that, and then play more of a prevent defense in the 2nd half and slowly allow Mayfield to make it look close. IN reality, the game was somewhat competitive. I didn't expect it to be, having watched both teams. I know for a fact Danville didn't play it's best game. Maybe Mayfield didn't either, but that still makes the game end up the way it should've. Danville was better all year, was better in this game, and are the champ. Head to head, Danville is dominant over Mayfield. And now are just 1 title shy of catching them for 2nd place in the state. Boyle county does still hold an advantage over Danville head to head, but they are always a bigger class school, and Boyle steals many Danville athletes, due mainly to the reputation of Boyle academically, and plus other sports besides football.
