Danville 35 Mayfield 21 (2A State Championship)

We (Casey) defeated Danville's current junior and sophomore class, 6-0 a few years back, without our best player and big play maker. He left after the first play with a broken finger. Unbelievably with all that talent Danville had our defense played lights out and one huge play by our current starting QB, playing QB back then made a play to our tight end, wide open in the middle of the endzone. Not to say that Danville didn't have talent on that team, but they weren't used correctly, IMO. No offense to that coaching staff, but I felt they could have won by 2 or 3 TDS. I think one thing Boyle middle has over Danville/Bate middle, is a better coaching staff. But I do believe Danville will struggle, as opposed to this season and last, next year. But when you lose a player like VanCleave, who in the heck wouldn't have some dropoff. Danville losses the Harris kid, Hill, Warren (big receiver), and Walker. I think their QB returns. Their coaching will get them wins, with enough talent to stay in the top 4 in 2A. I could even see them sneaking into the championship again. But they won't beat Boyle next year, not without some transfers, or maybe some kid that has quit, or has never played but is a phenomenal athlete that might come out to play...Just my opinion. And unfortunately I don't think they can play with Mayfield next year. But this title should rejuvenate their youth program and get more good kids out. Those Danville dad's that were players back in the 90s are going to have kids playing the next few years. If they are close to what their dad's where as players, they'll be right back in it again.
