McCracken County
#10
This has all been discussed. So again, look at the county's history:
Heath had a couple of great years in the 80's including the only state title amongst the 3 county schools. Had some decent teams in the 90's but awful towards the end.
Lone Oak had a historical run to close out the last 6 years of non-consolidation. Before this they were doormats, other than a few decent seasons in the 80's and early 90's.
Reidland had no successful runs, one good year and maybe two other decent seasons (pushing it).

It's asinine to think three non traditional football schools can combine to become an instant "powerhouse" in 6A football. The football program is still in a critical stage as to which direction it will go. This all depends on establishing good developmental programs and coaching staffs throughout. In general, the five Mustang football seasons have been carryover from the success of those Lone Oak teams. Kids were excited to get into football and only time will tell if that continues to improve or not.

The real fact:
Since 1969, the county as a whole hasn't been known for powerhouse football. Number of bodies doesn't always translate into major success. Bringing 10 schools together wouldn't help if the programs, traditions, or community support of "powerhouse" football doesn't already exist. Floyd Central just consolidated from two subpar programs, should they be competing for the 3A title? No, and they are far from it.

The bottom line:
Spring sports has always been the dominate force in the McCracken County area. There was major success before within several of these programs. So it makes perfect sense that baseball, softball, and tennis have been state contenders every year of existence.

Football, along with the other fall and winter sports, will need to improve at the developmental levels (little leagues & middle school) to see any major changes. These sports will continue to be very competitive, especially within the region, but will not be dominate year in and year out. Volleyball is the exception as it seems to have established a solid feeder program. But even they have big elephants in the room when it comes to state (Assumption, Sacred Heart, Mercy & Notre Dame).

Final thought:
Consider the past, understand the present, and temper expectations from that information. McCracken County Mustang football has been successful to this point with hopes for continual improvement.
