COLUMBIA, Ky. â No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson football outscored visiting St. Andrews (N.C.) 30-0 in the second half en route to a 43-7 win in the 2017 season opener on Saturday afternoon at Blue Raider Stadium.
The Blue Raiders led 13-7 at the half, after scoring just one offensive touchdown in a competitive first 30 minutes.
The Lindsey Wilson defense scored the first touchdown on the season with 2:49 left in the first quarter. A forced fumble by Joe Lewis was recovered by Tony Brackens and returned 32 yards for the Blue Raider touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
The Knights lone score on the day came on off a Lindsey Wilson miscue. Bernard Brown picked off a Dylan Beasley pass and returned it three yards for the score to tie the game at 7-7 at the 11:10 mark in the second half.
Blake Ingleton put the Blue Raiders in front for good in the waning minutes of the second quarter. Ingleton -- who finished with a game-high 79 rushing yards -- rumbled 13 yards to give Lindsey Wilson the 13-7 halftime lead.
With the score, Lindsey Wilson seized the momentum that led to the big second half.
After receiving the ball to start the second half the Blue Raiders put together a 60-yard, seven-play drive that resulted in a one-handed catch at the back corner of the end zone by Tyrone Stallard. Stallard had seven receptions for 113 yards and one touchdown. The 100-yard receiving game is the first of Stallard's caeer and the 31st in the program's history.
The Blue Raider defense then forced a three and out on the next Knights possession. Allen Cooks returned the St. Andrews punt 57 yards to the Knights' 25-yard line setting up a next-play touchdown from Beasley to Hunter Lovell, increasing the lead to 27-7 at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter the Blue Raiders scored 16 points on a Jared Dougherty field goal, a Cam Wyche 22-yard reception, and a TiCorion Williams one-yard rush.
The Lindsey Wilson defense did not allow an offensive score during the game while holding the Knights to 187 total yards of offense. Trent Mueller led the Blue Raider defense with 11 tackles on the day. C.J. Dickerson and Joe Lewis both had seven tackles during the game.
Beasley completed 18-of-24 passes for 236 yards and three touchdowns.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Sept. 2 against Warner (Fla.) in Lakeland, Florida. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT.
