David Torrence, a Peruvian-American middle distance runner and Olympian who ran collegiately at the University of California, Berkeley and graduated from Loyola (California) High, was found dead on Monday in a pool in Scottsdale, per AZFamily.com.
Torrence, 31, hailed from Malibu, California, and had dual citizenship with Peru. He ran at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, where he advanced to the 5K finals and set a national record of 13:23.20. He ran professionally for Hoka One One.
Reports said Torrence was in Scottsdale to train.
