State Champions by Class in Non-Classed sports
#11
Let's imagine a KHSAA where no sports were Classed.

About three schools (Trinity, St. X, Highlands) would have a football team state championship. One or two different teams might sneak in there once in awhile, but they would few and far between. Does that mean that teams like Belfry, Bowling Green, Mayfield or Boyle County weren't good enough or didn't deserve to win a state championship during their dynasty years, No. It proved exactly why we need Classes for other sports. The powerhouse team Belfry was in 2016 wouldn't have beat Trinity this past season. Belfry deserved their 3A state championship, they were the best and most dominate team in 3A without question. The pirates would have gave Trinity a game for a few quarters, but the Rocks would have pulled away in the 2nd half. And No Belfry fans, please don't send me Hate mail, just using you guys as an example.

Think of all the other great teams in your part of the Commonwealth over the years that ran in to a 6A powerhouse or a Private school that knocked them out of post-season play. We will never know, but could that team have dominated teams in their Class? I've heard the stories all the time, "Our 1987 team was incredible, but we had to play XXXXXX in the first round of the regional tournament and they ended up winning the state championship."
