State Champions by Class in Non-Classed sports

It is a state championship. It isn't going to be easy, nor should it be.

I 100% agree. God only knows the heart breaking football seasons I've sat through as a JC fan until we finally cut the head off the dragon. I'm also a 15th region fan. If JC doesn't make it to a state meet, I'm 100% behind any 15th region team or any mountain team that is competing at the state level. And No, this isn't a pity party thread for our poor mountain schools. I'm the person who makes the threads about how many winless teams make the football playoffs or teams that have less than two wins making the district basketball tournaments. The argument about winning a state champion not being easy or being fair is valid, but not the best rebuttal to the situation I've outlined. Let's hear the KHSAA articulate why the sports I've got listed are not Classed. The results are there in black & white. The numbers don't lie. The numbers paint the picture of the current state of high school athletics in our Commonwealth. The Metro areas in our state are dominating athletics (that discussion is it's own thread) and the rural areas are sinking. Is that fair? Some say Yes, some say No. IMO, over the past 100 years, the KHSAA has been the best thing for athletics in our Commonwealth. Thousands of men and women have developed a lifelong love for the sport they played and pride for the school they played for. With that said, times have changed. The Boys Sweet 16 have been seeing low attendance numbers, there's no drama anymore. The days of having a Carr Creek or a Clay County or a '96 Paintsville team cut down the nets are long gone. The allure for the majority of the fans coming to the Sweet 16 for all those years was to see a small school or the underdog come in a win the state title for their hometown. Those days are gone. The majority of the fans that have stopped coming is because they don't wanna see a Metro area or a Private school win. Where's the excitement in that? Seeing a school with 1,500+ students blow a team with less than 300 students off the floor in the first round is not gonna draw fans.

Maybe I'm missing something. Maybe I've got it all wrong. I don't think I do, maybe somebody can explain (and make me believe) why using a Class system would be bad for high school athletics.

Some sports are classed, some are not. If the KHSAA really wants to properly 'manage' high school athletics in our Commonwealth, they need to Class the other sports or don't Class any of them.
