Mike Tyson defeated Trevor Berbick to become the youngest Heavyweight boxing champion in history. Tyson won in the 2nd round via TKO. He was 20 years and 4 months old.
Tyson claimed the World Boxing Council (WBC) title that night.
On 3/7/1987, Tyson defeated James Smith for the World Boxing Association (WBA) title.
On 8/1/1987, Tyson defeated Tony Tucker for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) title.
On 6/27/1988, Tyson defeated Michael Spinks by 1st round KO to win the Ring Magazine title and claimed the Lineal Heavyweight championship.
The WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF are the four biggest and most respected boxing promotions.
At the time, The Ring Magazine title belt was awarded to the Lineal Champion of that weight class. The criteria has since changed since Tyson held that belt.
