Got to disagree with having so many teams at the 4-6 grade levels Hoghead. I think they need to get some quality coaches for these younger kids. Put a little money out and hire 2 good coaches. Run the same things as the high school program. I think one 6th grade team would be adequate with the small numbers this county has. Only 6th graders on that team. Go out and play the best teams in the area. Learn how to win at an Early Age. What is the purpose of beating up on each other and being the King of Perry County when you cant beat anyone outside of the county that's pretty good. Maybe we would do better with a 7th grade team and a 8th grade team. You could play your league ball with 2/3rd and 4th/5th. But after those years your going to need better coaching, more discipline, and start putting kids where they are looking at playing in the future. We have had all these teams at all these levels in the past and it hasn't worked. May need to make things more simple and start making kids compete for their spots instead of coaches having to play kids that show up here and there when they want and still get to play. Yeah I know its 5A but its still 11 vs 11. I don't know all the answers either but I wished they would try someone new. Take your best and play them together, have quality practices, hire coaches without kids playing, and go out and play the best at an early age. Take a few beatings along the way. Work on your weaknesses and improve your strengths. I feel like if Ovie Canady stays around here long enough he will get the Youth programs improved. He already has made a lot of progress. Works harder than anyone I know that's ever worked with the younger kids. Hope nothing but the best for our football program.
