In the midst of all the talk of middle school playoffs... I post a grade school score, lol.
This was a great game. Valley took the opening possession and proceeded to go on a long, time-consuming drive. By the time SV finally scored a touchdown, it was the second quarter and Pikeville had yet to see the ball. A successful conversion set what would be the final score.
SV's defense forced a quick 3-and-out, and was driving inside the Panther 30-yard-line. But a holding call slowed things down, and Valley would end up a yard short on 4th down. Pikeville ended up moving the ball into Wildcat territory after that, but a huge sack allowed time to run out in the half.
The second half started out with Panther ball, but SV forced a fumble which once again set them up in great field position. However, Valley had a couple more penalties on the drive, and ended up short on 4th down once again. Pikeville went backward on their next drive and were forced to punt. However, SV got bogged down in Pikeville territory once again, this time due to a QB keep that went for a 10-yard loss. The Wildcats would eventually turn it over on downs for the third time in the game.
Pikeville finally got their offense rolling in the 4th quarter. A good run gave them a first-and-goal, but the Valley defense stiffened up and kept them out of the end zone. After taking over on downs, Valley looked to end the game by picking up a first down, but yet another costly penalty forced them to punt the ball away. The Panthers would drive the ball inside the 30, but just like the first half, the game would end with a huge QB sack.
This seemed like a game that SV was mostly in control of, yet could never quite put away. A combination of multiple penalties, busted plays, and some good defense stopped the Wildcat offense from scoring after the first drive, and the defense was forced to step up and protect the lead in the second half.
Good game to both teams. SV moves to a 10-4 record, with the last game of the year on Saturday.
