I am just of the opinion that if we can pull 70 kids out of the halls at Clay, which to my knowledge we have never had that many consistently, then SURELY 11 of them can play. If not, then that's a bad sign of the quality of athletes that are in the school or bad coaching because looking at the schedule there will be several of those schools that share extremely similiar demographics as us on there and they will be lucky enough to pull out 30 kids on their roster. If we are pulling out twice as many kids as some of the competition and are still losing then is it likely that their 30 is better than our 70? If so, I would assume that is a bad sign for sports across the board at the highschool, because I know a couple of the kids play basketball and other sports as well so could we possibly see a downturn there? Either way, I think Combs and company get it done in year 2 and we are all drinking black and gold kool-aid come November.

Like I said, I love Clay County but I think you just answered where I'm coming from. I won't sit here and say I played but I'm a pretty knowledgable sports person and all of friends were athletes, we grew up during a time when grade school sports were huge. Not a time when you had 2-3 okay athletes across the county. We've lost two elementary schools in the last 12 years or so and have several hundred less kids at the high school. When I was in high school I think the football team went something like 25-20, not great but on average a winning season each year. We had over 1,000 students and were 5A. If we want to get back to respectability, it starts at the lowest level. When you start seeing 10 or so 11-12 year olds make you say, "Okay, that was nice.." or "Wow!" like then, I think we'll get back. I hope the boys come out and have a really great year, I'm a fan of all of them.
