[Envy~Me~Always]

This thread is obviosuly one that gets people fired up to say the least. I have played for several different coaches and different coaching styles. There were seasons in which I never got off the bench unless it was a huge blowout. But by the time I was a Junior and Senior, I was not only the leading scorer but rebounder as well.

I have also had the wonderful oppurtunity to coach at various levels. I know, coming from a player standpoint, that sitting the bench at any level is hard to deal with especially when the child doesn't understand why. Yes there are some occasions in which the coach has favorites and plays people that will make him look good. Sometimes there are coaches who only play the ones who he/she can win with.

At any level, coaches should always remember why they are there- the players. Any child of any age that is willing to bust their a$$ day in and day out deserves playing time. But kids of any age who go to practice and aren't willing to work hard shouldn't be given playing time. But parents must also realize that negative comments about other team members and coaches puts a negative outlook of any sport on their child.

I have children of my own. Yes it would be extremely hard to sit there and watch my child ride the bench due to favoritism, or lack of attention from the coach, or from any other reason. we all want what is best for our children. But being told that I would never amount to anything as a player, being pushed aside because I wasn't popular enough, and just being looked over made me work my a$$ off to be where I am today. Not all kids will do this I am well aware. That is where parents, instead of being negative, should help their kids understand what is going on. Work with them, guide them, leave out the negative comments.

When it comes down to the coach just having favorites and caring only about the win column, then they need to be confronted. But remember is the school system is willing to put up with it what does that tell ya? IT GETS WORSE ALOT FARTHER DOWN THE LINE THAN MOST PEOPLE REALIZE!!:coach:
