Independent schools no longer have the advantage that they had prior to changes in school funding in the late 80's. Actually the commissioner of education stated that he wanted 120 school systems in the state and has made an effort to shut independents. Save a nickle damn the child approach.

No way in Hades he will get Pikeville to close. While strides have been made at other schools in the county, Pikeville still offers the best academic opportunities in Pike County overall. Please, before anyone puts my head on a pike and tries to run me out on a rail, note I said strides have been made at the other schools. The gap is nowhere near as wide as it used to be. In fact, in certain subjects, some schools have caught or even passed Pikeville. But overall, Pikeville still offers the best in Pike County. The new commissioner sounds like someone who needs to get out and your before opening their mouth.
