The only thing I have seen from 1955 is that Corbin was at the top spot for the entire state in 1955 (Same poll had St. X in one of the years right around that, so it was a state wide poll). Pikeville did go 11-0 and win their conference, but I have yet to see any type of poll where they were either listed ahead of Corbin or would be in a different classification than Corbin. I am sure there is some sort of merit out there, because it didn't just come out of thin air, but I would like to see confirmation.

Prior to the 1959 playoffs I don't believe there were Classes in the State. Since there was no playoff, why would there be?

I too had seen the Corbin teamed crowned as such. I would dig in newspaper archives to get confirmation before "claiming" it as a title.
