I totally agree with you Longmire. I hate to see something like that missed but, everyone makes mistakes. It wasn't near the only thing missed though. There was a play where NCC jumped offsides, which would have given M a first down. Not called. It was so obvious that our offense stopped the play and had to regroup to get the play off before a delay. Agee plays later M did it on defense and it was called. Then there was the pass that bounced off the carpet and NCC WR caught it. Not only awarded the catch but a facemask on top of it. Then, I don't know how many times I noticed 42 for M was either getting held or blocked in the back and never was it called. I noticed on one of NCC drives a lineman on their right side hold and almost tackle a defensive lineman in the endzone, which should have been a safety, no call. It was unusual to see these things out of a crew at state. But, in the end, the team that should have won did.

I wasn't at the game so I can't comment on any other plays. Missed judgment calls unfortunately, are part of almost every game. A missed application of the rules, that could have been fixed by any of the officials on the crew, should never be. Is this the missed catch/facemask call that you are talking about:

Looks like at least a facemask to me. And I'm not trying to diminish Mayfield's wind--I'm complaining about how the officials for the finals are picked. This should not have happened given the importance of the game--especially after what happened in the State Softball Tourney last spring. There needs to be a system that makes sure the best officials are selected each year even if that means the same ones go every year.
