Paducah Tilghman Tornado

There is some dispute about how and when PT got its mascot and colors but our local paper first used the name Tornado in 1924. However they had already been playing football for 20 years by then.

One story I heard is that an out of town newspaper said "Paducah blew through our boys like a blue tornado".

That's as good an explanation as any I guess

It is interesting that some posts above have similar stories about their teams being named by opponent's newspapers.
